Fun for a short time.

I have fond memories of playing through the original Gauntlet on my humble Commodore 64. If you stuck 2 joysticks in you basically had unlimited lives - just hit the fire button on stick 2 when your energy was nearly zero, and visa versa. It was the only way to complete the game as it seemed to go on forever. After playing this latest version for an hour I felt like my life was falling away from me at a rapid rate! Whilst I was initially enjoying the challenge of the constantly respawning enemies (even if you 'kill' the regeneration points they still come from behind backgrounds and off screen.) it wasn't long before the whole thing became very tiring. The game has good elements of course, some of the enemies look very cool and the move upgrade and magic systems seem very tight. But it does noting in the long run for a game design that was annoying 20 years ago.- Was this review helpful to you?

(4)Back To The Old School
By Tobie25 (9 reviews) from Broadstairs , 22 Sep 2007I loved this game. It was easy, short, not much of a story. Bassically everything i usally hate in a game, but yet i played it for hours on end and completed it 3 times. Everything about it made me smile. The little soud effects from the original when you open treasure chests. The wave after wave of baddies who, in real life, could be killed with a well placed fart. The way death would appear all menacing, but be defeated in a single blow.
By all means DO NOT BUY, but absolutly a game to rent. Just don't take it to seriously- Was this review helpful to you?

meh ...
By a customer from Aberdeen, Scotland , 28 Jun 2006I'm glad I never went out to buy this game, as if I did I would have been SEVERELY dissapointed.
The game's very short, and the graphics haven't improved very much since the PSX days.
However, it was kinda fun at points (you get to battle with loads of people at a time) and the multiplayer is quite good.- Was this review helpful to you?

Death has a beard.
By Kevin Warren from Ipswich, England , 04 May 2006I'll probably get shot for posting this, but I read this review and agreed with _everything_ they said so I really can't be bothered to write much else.

Despite being very disappointed with the game, it's still kinda fun with multiple players. Never found anyone on-line to play against. Hint: See if you can figure out how to play 'keepy uppy' with the elite guards.- Was this review helpful to you?
