HALO ODST Firefight
By wildobagins (1 review) from Newcastle upon Tyne , 21 Sep 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
Halo 3 ODST arrived with me on Saturday morning, and I have been playing it almost solidly all weekend. Its a much better game than Halo 3 and despite what all the nay-sayers have been spouting and spreading it is a legitmate stand alone game and although there is no revolution change to the gameplay from Halo 3 itself you will see a remarkable amount of content to play through.
The single player campaign is interesting and although I have yet to finish it due to the amount of time I have spent on 'Firefight' you will find hours of gameplay here...
The new gametype I am raving about is 'Firefight' and I would honestly buy the game if this was all you got. The only way I can describe it is as a sort of 'Defend a Point' style game. Yout team up with up to 3 local players or 3 xbox live players from your friends list. You guard a point where you have what I can only describe as a base behind you, where you can pick up health packs, ammo and grenades. There are a number of maps 1 of which I have been playing solidly all weekend, I haven't had a look at the others so I cannot comment on the variety, at a glance though there is about 12 maps 3 of which are locked and I haven't looked into unlocking these yet.
You are on high ground at the begining and enemy crafts descend from high above and drop off enemy mobs in succession. The artificial intelligence is really good and I have yet to finish the first map so there is definately hours worth of gameplay here.
Definately well worth the £30 launch price. I'd pay £40.- Was this review helpful to you?

Well worth playing if your a Halo fan
By TonusStonus (2 reviews) from Hampshire , 05 Nov 2011I played this game after I had played all the previous Halos, including Halo Reach, I decided to rent it to complete all the games in the series.
The single player campaign is relatively easy, but contains quite a good story line to link into halo 2 and 3.
You basically play as flash backs leading up to a certain point. I dont want to give away any of the plot. so I will leave it as if you like the Halo series then this game is well worth playing.- Was this review helpful to you?

Just for fans of the franchise.
By joshdaddy (2 reviews) , 28 May 2011I liked Halo 3, it had a sense of adventure and an epic feel, but ODST just felt like a stroll through a city, occasionally shooting at familiar and uninteresting enemies.
It's slow pace and lack of any plot make for a dull experience in campaign mode, and though i don't have xbox live, i'm sure Halo Reach would be more fun to play, if you really wanted to play Halo online.
In summary, i wouldn't bother if i were you, unless you're a halo fan. 'Reach' has been out for a while, rent that instead.- Was this review helpful to you?

More of the same; not necessarily a bad thing
By Ebers (5 reviews) from Leeds, England , 08 May 2011I was a bit bemused when I first read the details of Halo 3: ODST's campaign. I thought it odd that Bungie would decide to tell the story of some faceless trooper playing a supporting role in a tale that had already reached its conclusion. The traditional, blockbuster, save-the-universe plot that was to be replaced with something downright mundane by comparison: a lone trooper, exploring a city in search of his squad-mates.
As for the gameplay, I initially believed that Bungie were using this game to experiment with the traditional gameplay mechanics the series had become known for perhaps opting for a more stealth-based game or a tactical, squad-based shooter though it turned out not to be so. Instead, it's essentially the same Halo experience, just with a new hero. So, while ODST doesn't do a tremendous amount to push the series in new directions, I liked it another thoroughly enjoyable entry in the Halo series.- Was this review helpful to you?

HALO 3 Multiplayer
By rawraw (12 reviews) from Wakefield , 17 Apr 2011So, this game isn't halo 3. The ODST is a side story that happens between Halo 2 and Halo 3. For this very reason i recommend a rent if your a fan of the Halo franchise. It really tries to fill in alot of the questions from the games and gives depth to the master chief, and the Spartans UNSC.
But in terms of gameplay, it plays just like Halo 2 or 3. But i wouldnt say the campain is brilliant. Bungie has tried to make the game varie a little with wepons, and a night vision ability but ultimatly its the same. It really does show that the game was intended to be an 'add-on' DLC for the XBL marketplace.
The multiplayer isnt much to rave about. Especially because there isnt a matchmaking options. So if you want to play co-op you'll need freinds.
But, i still recommend this game as it contains the whole HALO 3 multiplayer including all DLC. And if you didnt know, the Halo 3 multiplayer is awsome.
I give the ODST game a 4/10
But the multiplayer disc included (HALO 3) i give a 10- Was this review helpful to you?
