  • The truth about Homefront

    [Highly rated reviewer]

Going to be 100% honest: Homefront is not a great game. I speak only for the single player aspect, as I don't enjoy console shooters in an online environment.

The campaign is a measly 4 hours long spanning seven chapters. How they can fit that many into a short space of time, I don't know. The most irritating thing is how it seems they WANT you to rush through it, yet still find ways to make you slow down. Scenes wont progress unless you arrive at the scene after the other characters. If you have to go through a gap, you need to let them all through first because it wont let you go through until the other have.

It's also terribly boring. Why? Because everything within it is too easy. The enemies die too easily, you die too easily (and too suddenly, as there's barely any indication as to whether you're being shot at or not) and when you manage to get to cover before dying easily, your health regenerates within a second.

What are surey meant to be moving moments within the game hardly have such an effect. Worse was a part less than minutes in which disturbed me more than anything in a game has ever done. And that's saying something, because it takes a lot to shake me up in a game.

Homefront falls short in almost every aspect. I hear the multiplayer is good, so get it if you're into that. Be prepared for a cross between Bad Company 2 and Call of Duty. Just don't expect anything as good as either of those.

  • 'Frustrating' isn't synonymous with 'fun'

When I first heard of this game - a war game with heart - I thought 'it can't be that bad'. Then I saw the reviews and most of them were negative. Regardless I eventually rented it and all of those reviews instantly made sense. Without boring you with too many details; do not rent this game. If you need to know why, read on. Now, I don't really write reviews, but this game is certainly deserving of one. At least to save other people from experiencing such terrible... everything that goes into making a game. Usually I have the patience of a saint when it comes to games because you have to respect the effort that was put into it. Not the case with Homefront. The story and characters are constantly contradicting themselves (a character that says 'it never gets any easier' after killing someone is also heard going 'kill them all!' in the same context). The gameplay is horrible. You get caught on the tiniest, most ridiculously needless objects lying around everywhere on the battlefield (any battlefield is littered with pointless, regurgitated boxes, scraps and other stuff that you shouldn't have to look out for before moving anywhere). The enemies (by default) relentlessly hunt you and only you, with systematic accuracy (you could be ducking behind a wall but seeing as your elbow is sticking out every enemy in a 6 mile radius will go for you Teammates are useless - I don't think there was a single unscripted instance where an AI teammate killed an enemy. You have to wait for them before moving to the next area - rubble that is clearly traversable by ducking has an invisible wall until all of your teammates decide to mosey on through. Oh, and they also love getting in the way of you and your targets. You'd think they're on the other team. Don't even think about the multiplayer.

this hasn't got that bad of a story-line, it is a bit short and has annoying glitches, as one other reviewer mentioned, almost every stage has you waiting and tail gating for your other 2 members of your team to go first, and when they get there it's down to you to make specific take downs to progress, which makes play slow and tedious. i havn't tried the on-line version so can't comment. but all in all and average and pretty game.

  • Disappointed, story had lots of wasted potential

Could have been so much better. Started off with great writing and it had the makings of a great game. Then it ended. Seriously, the campaign is very short and the ending sort of comes out of nowhere in a rushed fashion. Gameplay is often frustrating and nothing you won't find in a plethora of other titles. Not really worth the time, certainly do not buy it.

THQ should be commended for the marketing of this game; it managed to drive enough pre-release sales before we played this car crash. That's the only reason this cr*p deserves any stars at all.
