Huh?

Call me shallow, but I feel that if I am going to spend 5 hours 'in' a story-based game, I'm going to want to know what the fook I am ACTUALLY doing!
This game is so fashionably-styled and quirkily designed that it is actually completely unplayable. There is no direction; has an odd, undeciphrable storyline; and, as I say, after over 5 hours of play, I felt I had achieved NOTHING!
Rent it, try it.. I'll bet its back in the post by nightfall!- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer from Cheltenham, UK , 08 Sep 2006This is a game that dares to be different. And unfortunatly that means that it will split players in opinion. More often than not you will find players arguing the age old question; Originality Vs Standard fare. And as such this game defies genre typing. Part FPS, part Action adventure, part RPG. All different
This game takes a long time to get into and has an overly intensive political plot. At first it takes a long time to get used to the fact that essentially you can only move your character forwards and backwards along a set path. When enemies appear (you know they are there by a high pitched laugh that sets nerves on edge) you initially cannot see them, untill you enter a First Person mode and scan the room with your psychic ability, and then start shooting. Again takes a while to get used to.
It also seems hard to actually lose a game, quite often you can lose a life. But one of the characters can pick up the remains of the character who lost a life and restore them. However if that rescuing character dies the game is over. So its a simple choice to just not use that character unless he is recovering others remains. And then very carefully.
The varying characters take a while to get used to their different abilities. Sometimes it will be pure luck that you come across a situation in the right character to see the effect. But the game does try to help you with some vague clues, that in retrospect seem obvious.
The music is minimal at best but when it does kick in it is generally for the addition of atmosphere and works well. The only thing that grated on me for a while was the fact that almost every person you come across in game speaks in a weird type of sing song nonsense and is subtitled underneath, not such a bad thing you would think. But some of these voices are quite painful to hear droning on.
For pure balls to do something different this game is worth playing. But it will not sit well with a some people. And thats the risk it takes. The choice is whether to support these risk takers who will surely help keep the games scene alive with innovation. Or let their achievements be for naught by not even trying them out.- Was this review helpful to you?
