Aha! I knew it; FPSs CAN be done on the PS2 after all!
By The Black Ninja from Birmingham, UK , 19 Apr 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
Did this come out on the PC? Well, whether it did or not, there are countless PC FPS (first-person-shooter to those not in the know) titles that enjoyed huge success; Half Life, Call of Duty, Unreal Tournament, the Rainbow Six series, etc. etc.
THe obvious problem with the PS2 FPSs is that a joypad can't compete with a mouse for intuitive, accurate and responsive control; especially if you're used to the PC versions.
However, I was feeling optimistic so i got this and I am SO glad I did; the graphics, story and environment are very immersive, along with the guns and sound it all feels very right. Even the slightly sluggish joypad control works well to an extent, probably because some of the aiming can be done for you.
If you want to know the story then you're better off getting it, but you're basically a futuristic grunt soldier fighting against the invasion of cyborg-type enemies, and a lot of the time you'll find yourself with about 3 or 4 allied troops in a bunker fighting off massive waves of enemies. At the beginning of each level you can even choose from the assortment of characters you pick up, which is a nice touch and means some levels have to played slightly differently.
Excellent settings, lots of great different guns to try out, difficult levels, huge attention to detail, incredible visual effects and a decent plot all make this is a great game. It's pretty cheap nowadays too so you've got no excuse to give it a go.- Was this review helpful to you?

(3)Sons & Daughters of Helghan!
By jimmyq (1 review) from Dagenham , 09 Feb 2008When this title was released it quickly became the most intense experience on the PS2. It was innovative and grabbed you by the throat as soona s you picked up the controller. The story mode was good but what truly made this title stand out from any other shoot em up around was it's online play. The online experience was an adrenelin fuelled kill fest that scored 10/10 every time. The introduction off headsets with online gaming took this game to the pinacle of the genre....Bill Gates fans would have you believe that HALO was better but KILLZONE was and will be (when KZ2 arrives on PS3 this year) the best shhot em up out there. Awesome online gaming experience.- Was this review helpful to you?

Not bad.
By JusE (11 reviews) from Ipswich , 05 Jul 2006Having been disappointed with some of the other First Person Shooters i've tried out recently i didn't think this was too bad although i still prefer BLACK and MEDAL OF HONOUR. The storyline is quite good but the missions are a bit repetitive; basically killing hordes of enemy soldiers. You get to choose between four different characters who all offer different skills, one of them is a girl called 'Luger' (bit strange) but she has a cool set of infrared goggles which detect body heat. You do get several different weapons to choose from and the best one comes straight from the film ALIENS; it's a huge machine gun which attaches to your body to support the weight and fires extremely fast, it also has an 800 round drum which means you can unleash hell on your orange-eyed enemies. The game set-up lacks any sort of map which means on occaison you do get lost and wonder where you should be going and this did annoy me several times. Not a huge amount of skill required but you still might enjoy it if you just like shooting people.- Was this review helpful to you?
