very fun, despite the niggles.

I've currently racked up about 20 hours gameplay, and I hate to say I'm really enjoying it. I say 'hate to say it' because... Well, there's just that many little problems with it that you kinda feel bad about enjoying yourself.. Whilst the story is quite brilliant, The sidequests don't really give you much of an incentive to complete them.
The main problems I have with the game is that, even after the suggested installation, the game lags during combat (slight freeze whenever you hit someone) and whilst the voice acting is great, the lip syncing leaves a lot to be desired. The games auto-save function is somewhat lacking, as I have often had to redo entire dungeons because I was bested by the boss, and there isn't a regular autosave function, even if you level up, only autosaving when changing areas, or some other less-than-useful arbitrary time (such as passing the entrance to a new area, even if you don't go in it)
Someone also mentioned it was too easy, then cited he had only played a couple hours - the first four hours or so aren't too difficult, but after that it does toughen up. This is a game that will take 40 just running through the main quests, not doing anything else, so a mere 2 hours barely scratches the surface.
I have to admit that graphically, it doesn't feel very original, a blend of Warcraft and Fable. But that's not to say it doesn't work, its a stuningly beautifull game, with some of the larger exterior areas making me reminisce about Guild Wars (for some reason).
Overall, I have to admit that despite its flaws, I keep playing it, and dont think I will stop until I've finished the main story, and quite a few more faction ones.
Overall, I must award it 4*, love it.- Was this review helpful to you?

(28)Interesting but not great.
By reinhold (2 reviews) , 11 Nov 2012Gameplay mechanics are great and very interesting compared to other rpgs, however, despite the great intro, the obviously inspired mmo quest mechanic causes the story to completely disappear and you quickly find yourself grinding for grindings sake. Had great potential with its intuitive play style and great atmosphere but I stopped caring about the plot about 1/3 of the way through the main questline.- Was this review helpful to you?

It didn't click with me but...
By Tw33ks (1 review) , 19 Oct 2012I wasn't a huge fan of this game. I felt the pacing was a bit off and the story was too in depth, I found characters talking at me for several minutes at a time and I just wasn't interested. Unfortunately the game world never gripped me making for a dull story experience.
Now you may be wondering why I rated this a 3 and a half stars out of 5, the equivalent of a good rating. I will explain.
While this game didn't click with me for the reasons above I saw plenty of good things in the game, things that had they been in a game with a story I enjoyed would have made the experience better.
The first thing I liked was the combat. The combat may seem simple at first and it is but you quickly realise just how much depth there is to it and before you know it you will be pulling off combo's like a pro, launching enemies into the air doing an epic midair combo and upon landing shooting them down with a bow, it is very satisfying.
The second thing would have to be the crafting system. The crafting system especially the blacksmith skill is very powerful, if anything too powerful but it certainly makes you feel like a god swatting enemies away with your newly created weapon. Just like the combat, crafting is deceptively simple though as you level the skills up you can create some very intricate weapons and potions. The feeling of crafting a super powerful weapon or potion is one of the more rewarding things in the game.
Thirdly I would like to praise the leveling system. The game employs a hybrid skill tree this basically means that you aren't limited to just being a mage or a warrior. You can pick talents from each class and create some jack of all trades kind of hero, or you can specialise in one class and be a master of one combat style, it is very much up to you.
Overall the game is good, it didn't click with me but that doesn't make it a bad game.
If you are a fan of games like 'The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion' or 'The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim' then you may just find something to enjoy here, if you are a fan of fantasy based Role Playing Games then this game may just be for you.
Though if you don't like dense dialogue that appears to go on forever and a game slow to get started, then you may want to give it a miss.- Was this review helpful to you?

Kingdoms Of Amalur: More On The Side
By Kujraine (9 reviews) , 10 Sep 2012I found the gameplay to be very slow. It was a great game, from what I played, but I spent forever doing side quests in the starting area, I ended up getting ahead of myself. And I wasn't leveling up fast enough to match the enemies I was coming across.
The story seemed well thought out, and it was quite good by design. However, the gameplay got laborious pretty fast. A great game, for those that like freestyle playing, however, it was too side-quest orientated.- Was this review helpful to you?
