Makes Blue Dragon look like a side project
By borandi (2 reviews) from Hull , 26 Feb 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
I imported this game from Play-Asia (an english version that works on PAL systems), and I've never looked back. It's made by Mistwalker Studios, who made Blue Dragon and is comprised of Final Fantasys Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu, who are currently kings of the Japanese-RPG market.
Imagine all the best bits of the Final Fantasy series in one game. Then expand that game onto four discs, with high definition and seemless transition from Full Motion Video to ingame sequences. Add a top notch storyline (yes people, it's better than FF7) and you've got a killer game.
It makes Blue Dragon look like a side project. Lost Odyssey is the diamond in the rough, the epitome of the J-RPG genre. If you're interested in storyline, love high-def graphics, ever taken a liking to any J-RPG ever, you'll at least rent this game.
Most reports state a 50hr playthrough time, with around 10hrs of story. That's probably cutting it to its bare minimum, without doing all the sidequests. Blue Dragon took me 90hrs for 1000GS, so I'm expecting the same here, if not more (I'm slightly over 10hrs in, still on the first disc).
Highly recommended to any J-RPG fan.- Was this review helpful to you?

(27)Hours of RPG Bliss!
By Jemism (1 review) , 09 Dec 2011Probably my favourite RPG of all time! I was sceptical at first being a die hard FF addict but I found Lost Odyssey had even more to offer.
I understand what some are saying about lots of cut scenes but if you had only stuck with it, by the second disc, perhaps even earlier, most of the dream sequences are optional (i.e. you have to go up and talk to a certain person to trigger them) and there are certainly a lot less than there are right at the beginning. However, I personally read each and every one, and cried at quite a few - the touching stories combined with the beautifully simple music was enchanting.
As for those who haven't managed to finish the game, it does get a little monotonous at the very end before the final battles but so does every other RPG! How many RPG's has anyone played that you don't have to level up and side quest at the end? :)
Without revealing spoilers, I would highly recommend that if you didn't manage to finish, go back and see it through to the end. I was literally on the edge of my seat gasping for breath with tears running down my cheeks at the increadible conclusion to this epic story!
Ack, dang it all, now I'm going to have to go back and play it again :)- Was this review helpful to you?

The best JRPG on the 360
By Sperz35 (6 reviews) from Marske-By-The-Sea, England , 24 Jan 2010This is simply the best JRPG on the Xbox 360.
The graphics are very smooth. apart from lots of loading screens.
The story is very deep and draws you in and never gets dull.
There are lots of items to collect from everywhere and having 4 disks this game will keep you entertained for hours on end.
i wasted away many weekends playing this.- Was this review helpful to you?

Okay but too padded
By Whiteroom (3 reviews) from Milton Keynes , 03 Nov 2009I have to say i didnt get past the first disc. I kind of liked the game but it had 2 major problems for me which just made it boring...
Firstly it was far too padded out with dream sequences and cut scenes. I found myself skipping most of these as i want a game not a movie or a book. Some would be good but every few minutes is a bit much.
Secondly it has a terrible issue of when loading it freezes meaning everything is lost since the last save which can be very frustrating especially if you have just done one of the very boring bits...- Was this review helpful to you?
