    [Highly rated reviewer]

Hey everyone this is my first review and i will try to be non-biased and cover everything but if i fail im sorry lol. The Fighting genre of Video Games is held in such high esteem that companies can only cringe at the thought of a failure in their creation. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is far from a failure by any means, and its quite a fun game to play. The only problem with the game are small, almost un-noticeable problems that keep adding up as cons to the game. Since its a Fighting Game, there really is no story, its just pure bust em up 3 on 3 fight to the death action...which is how it should be. Heaven forbid that even Fighting Games have to have stories these days. Its pretty sad that companies and gamers of today feel like they have to have something more than just good clean multiplayer fun when playing a game. What happened to the days of Street Fighter, when a person could just go bash someone around for no reason? Well, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 sticks back to that concept. The graphics of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 are quite good, using Artwork from the comic books for the Marvel Characters, as well as for the Capcom cast. They're very detailed, such as Venom and Spiderman, or Jin and Hayato. The background levels in the game are also well designed, but instead of 2 Dimensional, we're given 3-D Eye Candy, interesting lighting designs, and even moving levels (There's on level where you're fighting on an iceberg floating down an Arctic River, its very cool). The look of attacks and Special Techniques is very well done, and quite pleasing to look at. The way the characters move, jump, and attack is a testament to the great detail that the artists put into their designs. Attacks such as Wolverine's Specials, Iron Man's Photon Cannon, Captain Commando's Attacks, and even regular non-special combos are quite pleasing to the eye. In conclusion, the graphics are probably the best part about the game. The gameplay is where the game takes some negative hits. There are 56 characters in the game, and you can choose 3 for your team, which is all well and good, but the problem is that many characters are so similar you might as well be playing as one character. such examples come from Mega Man and Roll's similarities, Bone Claw Wolverine and Adimantium Wolverine, as well as the overflowing cast of Street Fighter characters with similar attacks and techniques. For the most part, this really isn't a problem, as with 56 characters, you get a lot of choices to pick from, and its fun to use different character combinations and see what you can come up with on your team. Another problem with the gameplay is that the game moves so fast that its pure button mashing fun. There isn't much strategy to it, other than hitting your opponent with whatever you can, building up Special Attacks, and then using them to defeat your opponent. It takes the strategy that comes with Fighting Games and throws it out the window. The music is the worst part about the game. The songs picked during the fights are terrible, and take away from the mood and atmosphere of fighting. Instead of something catchy and intense, they picked a smooth, Jazz, soft rock feel. It really detracts from the fact that you're trying to beat the crud out of the other player's character. Its sad when the best track in the game is the one in the Main Menu. Fortunately, the game makes up with those few flaws with pretty good replayability value. You only start off with roughly 24 characters, and are required to earn points so that you can buy the rest- and there are 56 in all. That is a LOT of characters, and it takes a LONG time to get them all. This will keep you coming back, playing the game for hours on end. And though the 1st Player mode of the game gets old after about 5 times, there is no denying that this game can be fun if you have a lot of friends over and fight each other. That is where the majority of play time comes from. As well as buying characters, you can purchase different costumes for each one. These are very nice:and a lot of them are VERY cool. Again, this is a testament to the absolute genius of the Capcom/Marvel artists that designed the characters. My favorite part about the 'Secret Factor' (the section of the game where you buy things) are they Character stills that you can purchase for each. It shows their character designs by the designers of the game, which are all really awesome to look at. Finally, you can purchase new levels, and they all look really great, and though they're not interactive like in the Super Smash Bros. series, they're very cool, and they keep the atmosphere of the fight the way it should be: intense, fun, and exciting. All in all, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a good game to play, particularly with your friends in Multiplayer Mode, but it gets old after a couple hours each time. Usually i'll play this game, get tired of it, and then wait a few weeks or until I go to a friend's house and play for a couple hours in the Multiplayer Mode.
