This is an honest review I would recommend that you RENT this game, but not BUY. The reasons are because this game is so repetitive and bland, that its just not worth it's money. The story is quite good and so is the voice acting, alongside the gameplay too which offers some challange even on medium, and also fun with the various amount of guns, slow-mo shooting and the golden guns (3 parts to a specific gun per level, and if you find all 3 parts you get a 10% damage increase on the gun PLUS a golden skin). But theres a downside, and theres loads too. I hate the fact that there's cutscenes nearly literally every 5 mins of the game, sometimes I felt like it was a film instead of a game, and because of this I just didnt feel that involved with the game, leaving myself being bored. Also instead to add to it you HAVE to watch most of these cutscenes in order to follow the story ( duh ). At times it felt like my character was not responding to the controlls I was inputting, the character felt sluggish too and not fluid at all, in all honesty this game just felt like GTA IV but with slow mo feature. Finally the cover system in the game would sometimes just leave you completely exposed and sometimes you can't even help it, for example after a cutscene max runs into cover and then you take over, and you're just in the dumbest of places to be... Overall this game is nothing special, you can complete it in a day and half, there's some replay ability depending on if you're after achievements.

loved it, stuck it straight on hard mode with free aim on, was some difficult bits but well worth the rent. story mode and twists were decent. overall 7/10 for me

as a hardcore gamer for 23 years this is one of the best games i've ever played, excellent script numerous twists and turns you wouldn't expect and the graphics are fantastic. There's a few slow sections but only the most impatient amongst us will find it an issue. I will be buying this one as I can't live without it in my collection!

  • Round about normal for Rockstar's standards

Max Payne 3 might not be Rockstar's best game with such titles as Grand Theft Auto 4, Red Dead Redemption and L. A Noire out there, but it is still one of the best third-person shooters going. It has the violence locked down with not too violent but not too weak either and it's 'bullet time' gameplay can really change a gun fight. If you are used to the simplistic shoot out techniques of Call of Duty, this will be a lovely, if challenging, change. The storyline was original which is another reason that this game is so good. That and, if you watch carefully, throughout the game, Max's beard keeps growing and growing, meaning that Rockstar have taken into acount the time difference between missions. This differs from other games. There is a healthy selection of weapons to choose from, making it fun to play over and over while using different weapons. The collectables can be challenging to find but there are plenty of them to keep you occupied, even when you have completed the story. The game is in a simple level format which is not as inviting as the free-roam elements of most of Rockstar's other games, which is a bit of a dissapointment for lovers of free-roaming games. But all in all, Max Payne 3 is a very good game. Not suprising for Rockstar Studios.
