Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing

If the ex-heavyweight champions fighting career is on a downward spiral, at least he can be assured of an income from game endorsements such as this. But how long before a Lennox Lewis game, I wonder?

Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing presents an extremely accurate recreation of the sport. With commentary from Ian Darke and Bobby Czyz, and featuring 20 international fight settings, such as Wembley Arena, Caesars Palace and Carnival City, the game brings the big fight atmosphere into the home with an intuitive control system and an impressive display of visuals.

A vast array of game modes are available, the main being Belt Mode. In this the player launches onto the world circuit with the aim of building a global reputation. Success enables a rise in ranking and competition level, opponents get tougher, and beating them unlocks their character in other game modes. Custom Boxer Upgrades can be unlocked in Speed Boxing. Speed mode challenges the player to beat the opponents in the quickest time possible, rewarding speed with upgrades. Tyson Challenge requires the knocking out of 15 opponents in one round each, and a Versus mode allows two players to go head to head.

The game features a new engine called the P? (Polymorphic & Interpolative Node-mapping) facial damage engine. This emulates the damage received by the players faces, causing them to appear more bruised and bloody as the fight progresses if things get too brutal, the referee may well stop the fight.

As far as boxing games go, MTHB is definitely one of the more distinguished. A great level of detail has been implemented, delivering a great-looking, fluid and solid fighting simulation and, whats more, the great Iron Mike has put his honourable name to it.
