NFL Street

The virtual game of American football, like the real-life sport, is one that is immensely popular Stateside. And although many of these games dont make it over to the UK, those that do are generally well received. Well, heres another from EA, aptly named NFL Street, for Xbox.

Developed by those behind the long-running Madden NFL series, NFL Street is as technically accomplished as its EA Sports counterpart. A game similar to rugby in some respects, EAs latest offering comes complete with all the standard rules and attributes that any other representation of the sport offers. But ditching its attempts as a thoroughbred simulation, NFL Street gives a light-hearted arcade feel, boasting street scenes and players with attitude.

Gamers have the option to assume control of any of 300 of the sports biggest stars in a pick-up-and-play offering that is remarkably simple to get to grips with. The controls are intuitive and avoid frustrating players with an over-complicated play mechanic something difficult to achieve with virtual body-contact sports.

As a game, NFL Street presents itself with a variety of game modes, including NFL Challenge and Pick Up Game, and is visually impressive. Gaming locales are varied, and character models and facial features have been deliberately exaggerated. The Xbox hardware does a fine job with NFL Street, boasting clean, crisp visuals and a frame rate second to none.

NBA Street was a diverting joy, a step away from the serious simulation of EA Sports' Madden games, and the same applies to NFL Street. It all means more fun and games in the same vein from EA BIG.
