This isn't really a bad game. It's definitely worth a rental, but I wouldn't bother with it for Multiplayer since there's way better out there. That means there's little opportunity to find multiplayer matches. Prey just can't compete in the Call of Duty age.

The game itself is a pretty generic 'Run-and-Gun' FPS, with some very novel uses of Portals and gravity-based puzzles. The weapons are suitably beefy and organic (given that they're all basically bits of the aliens you pull off of them) and it's pretty gory. Aliens blow up into Doom-like chunks. Gibs aplenty.

The reason it's an easy game is that it's actually impossible to die. When you do 'die' you basically go to the 'Spirit World' where you shoot a few flying spirits and then immediately return to where you died, complete with health and spirit restored (the more flying spirits you kill in the brief time you're in the Spirit World the more health and spirit you return with.) It's a novel system, and it takes the worry out of dying.

The levels are all Point-A-to-B levels, with your 'Spirit Bird' that guides you along the way. It's not really possible to get lost, just look out for the Hawk! There's also a 'Spirit Walk' ability that works a lot like Astral Projection and enables you to attack enemies, use switches, and walk through Force Fields to solve puzzles. The puzzles are all pretty easy, with nothing taxing. They're just 'Enter Spirit World, Press Switch, Return to body.'

The story is quite good for a videogame. It seems like the usual 'Aliens attack us for generic reason X' but it develops into quite a good Sci-Fi tale. It's not brilliant, but at least the Developers tried something different.

Overall it's very enjoyable in the brief time it takes to play it (22 Levels at about 15-20mins a level) and so it definitely comes recommended as a Rental.
