Enter my mind...
By Chris McKie from Tadley, England , 02 May 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
Psychonauts is pretty much a standard platform-adventure game but with a mighty twist. You have special Psychonaut powers that allow you to manipulate things around you. For instance, you can set things on fire, utilise telekinesis and even levitate. However, this is not the twist.
Entering the bizarre minds of others is a pretty appealing prospect. Psychonauts will let you do just that. Each stage is actually set inside somebodys mind. Even better, some of these people are members of an insane asylum! Once inside their mind it's your job to clean up any emotional baggage and get rid of those pesky mental cobwebs. Basically, you have to fix these poor people!
Each of the stages is absolutely unique. You'll enter the mind of a disco obsessed Psychonaut lecturer, the paranoid conspiracy-ridden mind of Boyd (a local guard) and you'll even find yourself participating in a crazy board game with none-other than Napoleon Bonaparte!
The creativity and originality of each stage is what makes this game so appealing. It's very hard to get bored. The layered nature of the game is also highly amusing. For instance, youll enter a stage (in the real world), like any other game but its then your job to probe further into each of the stages characters, fixing their minds, which then allows them to help you back in the 'real' world.
I haven't even mentioned the main story and the fact that there are literally hundreds of lines of dialogue that you can prompt at any time by simply walking up and talking to people. Either way, I hope you're interested enough to find out a little more about this great game and, of course, rent it.- Was this review helpful to you?

(3)Psycho-freakin-awesome!
By Lex (5 reviews) from Edinburgh , 13 Aug 2009I missed this game when the hype was out - Now it's nearly 6 years old, and for a system no-one sells. I put it on my list because I heard it was one of those 'Must Play' games.
It arrived out of the blue, and I was awed. Even these days, playing it emulated on an Xbox 360, it is clearly one of the best games of it's time and easily stacks up to modern titles in terms of gameplay and storytelling. Simply fantastic. Well worth a spot on your rental list.- Was this review helpful to you?

Brilliant!
By a customer from Droitwich, England , 08 May 2007When I bought this game I found it quite hard to get into at first because the first part was giving information about the collectibles on the game. But when i got into the first persons hmind it was brilliant. The game is so unique there is not another game like it. You enter peoples mind to retrieve information and to solve their personal issues in exchange for a favour to help you progress through the game. Throughout the game you learn different skills like telekinesis, pyrokinesis, clairvoyance, invisibilty, levitation and more. Truly a great game.- Was this review helpful to you?
