Review based on Single Player only – I didn’t play online so I have not commented on it.

First of all the good news – this game shows that a FPS can definitely work on a handheld, unfortunately this game hasn’t been crafted with much love or care. The mechanics are solid, and while this is arguably one of the most important aspects of a game, without an exciting and well-crafted storyline to carry the game it’s all a bit pointless. In this day and age we want, and deserve, more than just mediocrity.

Where a couple of the Vita’s launch titles such as Uncharted and Wipeout wowed us with great visuals as well as compelling reasons to invest our time, Resistance: BS is just happy doing what it needs to do with sloppy presentation and a very dull story line. Where Uncharted has done its best to try and look every bit as impressive as it’s three big brothers on the PS3, this game looks like a PS2 shooter with graphics and levels that are just plain repetitive and boring. A couple of crates stacked here and a grey corridor leading there, which at times makes you wonder if you’ve turned yourself around and gone back the way you just came. Even the presentation on the enemies seems very ‘old’ with repetitive death animations and chunks of meat lying about the level that look like they came straight out of a SNES Mortal Kombat II fatality.

While Graphics aren’t everything I’m afraid that the gameplay doesn’t hold up much better either – and not because it doesn’t work, as I said earlier it plays well, but because the story, characters, atmosphere and everything that drives you in a game is just none existent, clichéd and average at best. I had high hopes for this game after the great Resistance 3 but sadly Burning Skies doesn’t deliver the goods!

  • Good for trophies or mindless shooting

If you are looking for mindless shooter then this is it. The gameplay is solid, it's a shooter and does exactly what you expect it to. Some annoying elements like some of the touch controls and the running mechanic. What kind of game doesn't tell you about the run button until like half way through the game. The difficulty of the end boss is ridiculous, I pretty much walked through the game on normal and died maybe once or twice but the end boss took a lot of attempts. He can just kill you with each hit so you have to have an accurate shot, and with the vita that makes it tricky. I managed to complete it in two sittings, probably about 4 hours total. For trophy hunters this is a really easy plat BUT you will have to shell out for a network pass for those pesky online trophies. (£7 btw) Other than that it has no difficulty trophies so just enjoy the game as you would and then go back and mop up the rest with the level selector.

Not a bad game at all, really does bring a console like experience with the dual analogs! the trophies are really easy for any collector, the only down side is you need the online pass to get the last trophy which is play a multiplayer game :(
