When playing silent hill i would expect a longer game than downpour offered. First of all the fighting system has finally had the revamp it needs fighting no longer feels like a chore and you dont need to run away like a screamin girl weapons

are easy to find (except for guns) the game however is about as scary as a bunny compared to previous titles with a linaer story if your a fan then you wont be massively dissapointed just dont expect a superb game.

Oh dear. I can remember the original Silent Hill game from years back which had a great storyline, eerie feel and good all-round gaming. This one was a huge disappointment. Felt like all I did was wonder around in the dark for half an hour looking for a key so I could open a door to wonder around in the dark for another half hour looking for another key. The 'fighting' controls are shocking- the opponents are predictable and you are limited to about two methods of attack. The storyline is confusing and convuluted and the cut scenes laughably cheesy. Don't waste your time with this game.

I love the silent hill franchise from the PS2 days and had my trepidations about the latest version. As a survival horror fan, this game didn’t disappoint. Long gone are the days of Resident evil one, where you needed to conserve your ammo and was genuinely concerned about going around the next corner for fear of what might be there I have to say that this game came pretty close; However: The plot is a little annoying at times and the constant going back and forth to complete little side missions doesn’t seem very well thought out. Also the fact that you can’t move a few feet without the option to pick up a brick or a piece of wood gets a little frustrating as you are constantly stopping to check if it’s anything important. The game is also a little glitch in places but on the plus side, for all its faults the game kept me engaged and has some great moments that make you jump. The setting is very spooky and the option to choose certain paths of good vs. evil makes it interesting. If you’re a fan of survival horror I would recommend giving it a go, it’s not the best game out there, but it’s certainly a call back to the originals.

  • SO frustrating

There are elements of this game that are truly brilliant which is what makes the overall experience so much more frustrating. It ends up being a chore to complete and yet there was so much potential. Such a shame. IGN review says it the best: 'The most frustrating thing about Silent Hill Downpour isn’t the lousy combat, dull exploration, or even the technical gaffes. It’s the fact that every now and then while playing through the game’s story, you’ll see signs of brilliance'

  • One of the worst games this gen

As a fan of the silent hill games from the first one despite bad reviews I just had to try this, I actually can't believe how bad and broken this game is, first thing is some of it actually looks ok with some nice touches and there were 2 levels the city hall/adoption home that were fun and well done with some classic silent hill feel to it but unfortunately the rest of the game is so bad it makes no difference, and its not scary atall i didnt even get one mild jump or anything and the combat is soooo bad and annoying it wouldn't of cut it back on the ps1, if they really wanted to do hand to hand combat with scenery as weapons they should of looked at condemned which does it very well, its a very linear path you follow with exactly the same 5 enemies all the way through that look like they are from the last gen, then when you eventually get to the town the very first bit is a complete joke, running away from the scary light worked well in number 3 for that one bit but here they use that idea over and over again, most of the puzzles are useless and some good ideas are spoilt by chucking loads of enemies at you, the story is boring and predictable with very unlikable characters, this is definitely one of the worst games of this gen and that it bears the silent hill name is a disgrace, 2/10 and that's actually I think a generous score for it, now there is the hardware to do an amazing silent hill game we keep getting a number of well below average efforts, way to kill the name, is it really that hard to look at the first 3 games and see what made them so great
