    [Highly rated reviewer]

What i have played so far feels exactly like a silent hill game should! seems they have concentrated a lot on the town more on this game than they did with homecoming which is a great thing personally i loved homecoming but felt it was missing that part of the town aspect.

    Positives:

    - Great graphics, Environments, use of lighting!

    - Great atmosphere

    - alot to explore, look around, side quests

    - Town has a great look to it outdoors and indoors

    Negatives:

    - Combat can be a little clunky at times

overall definitely this game an 8. 5/10 and if you liked homecoming or any previous silent hill games you will love this! hope my review helped!

As a fan of Silent Hill games i was excited for this game.

What a letdown, sure theres atmosphere and the obligatory creepy monsters, but stodgy controls, framerate issues, and freezing at various points, its almost unplayable.

My time with Downpour lasted about 2 hrs.

Shame, could have been so much better.

On the plus side, the game looks stunning in 3D.

This should be so much better. But there are so many things wrong with it.

The basic Silent Hill elements are fine - the location, the characters, the switch between the nightmare world and various locations around the town, the rehashed and tired story (but you don't expect it to be anything more) ... but when you consider the 'logic' for some of the puzzles, the feeble combat, the stuttering when it loads new areas, the tedium of exploring and trying to figure out routes when so many areas look the same in the fog (it doesn't help that you're often blocked by fences which would be easy to climb over if the game actually let you).

It was the puzzles which annoyed me most - some made sense (like working out a pattern of numbers) but others could only be solved by going round and round searching every possible place and then everywhere nearby - no logic involved. One side mission involves looking for a missing part. You'd expect it to be in the building .. so you hunt through every possible room again and again. Then you resort to the walkthrough and find it's actually in another building, an unmarked building at that, far from where you would expect. Another 'puzzle' has a locked door with no key anywhere - the lock opens when you turn on the TV - but of course it does, that's how all locks work, don't they?

Overall, it's dull - relying on back tracking, tedious exploring and constant map checking and nonsense puzzles to drag out the game length.

Great game with an eerily atmospheric open world and equally unnerving story line and side quests. Definitely worth a rent (and possibly purchase if your interested in completing each ending and side quest) by any survival horror fan.

    Pros:

    Good story with multiple endings

    Entertaining side quests

    Interesting characters

    Variety of weapons

    Cons:

Similarity of 'glow' pick up option on weapons and items needed for story line.

Little variation in monsters leading them to become more *groan* than 'aaargh!' after the first few fights.

Murphy's lack of emotion towards . . . well, almost everything

After reading reviews on this game i wasnt expecting much. But as soon as i started playing it i loved it. I admit the graphics lack the atmosphere of the other silent hil games with the fuzzyness but they are still good and detailed. There are some great moments in the game and some truly scary ones. It was a decent length, any longer i feel it would hae been too long. The story was great and the characters you feel you actually want to know their side of the story. The only downside to me was that the enemies were a bit boring and their wasnt a great deal of boss battles if any until the end. The combat is slightly clunky but once you lock onto an enemy it is quite easy to down. Overall with the side missions you can find and the story its well worth a rental.
