Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

It is likely I have over rated this game as it is stacked full of flaws which some of are a little unforgivable with-in the Silent Hill franchise. When comparing SM to Silent Hill 2 and 3, it becomes quite apparent that it leaves out much of what made those games unforgettable for me. One of the these is hearing a disturbing noise in a dark or foggy area and being unaware of where or what the noise is coming from. This mixed with how quickly you can die when encountering an enemy, how unpredictable the way their movement is, and the clunky controls which become even more difficult to use when you're panicking made up for a damn right scary experience which has made silent hill 2 and 3 my favourite games of the genre. Silent Hill SM destroys the fear of the unknown with cut scenes to introduce all new enemies showing them in broad day light so you have a full understanding of how they look and also move which is in a much more natural way than past enemies in the franchise. Also the controls are too easy to use which means when you do encounter enemies you will be running away fairly quickly or reloading from a very recent checkpoint. It often feels a little more like games like the Suffering which isn't a bad thing but just not of the standard of SH game. With all this being said though, It is actually a joy to play from start to finish. It does invoke a small amount of panic in the player as you cannot attack enemies. You can only stall them momentarily. It also has an intriguing story that may not be monumental but is enough to make you want to carry on playing. Its an attempt to reinvent the series that uses corny horror movie scare tactics instead of the atmospheric creepiness we're used to and is very different in terms of game play and formula. Even though of this reinvention of the classic horror game it captures the spirit of SH far better than 4 and 5 have and feels like a breathe of fresh air to the franchise after some quite poor attempts.

OMFG worse silent hill game EVER the only good thing is using the remote as a mobile phone the controls are ultra bugged does not respond to movement story line does look good but i really think Nintendo should stick to making mario games because this is BAD no wait this is the worse piece of S*&t and has destroyed silent hill for good

Like thinking you have a winning lottery ticket and then finding out you got the wrong date on them , gutting. After playing all the other silent hill games this one was a big let down for me. There are good aspect to the game such as the voices and noises that come from the remote and the creepy environments will have the hairs on the back of your neck standing on end. However you will find yourself aimlessly running through the areas searching for what you need and constantly running from the enemies. All the other games from the genre gave you the option to fight the creatures or run from them, well this game has only got the one option and that is run from them.

Not for everyones taste , if you loved the silent hill games as i do then this one may come as a dissapointment .
