More like a last gen title
By a customer from Galashiels , 29 Nov 2010[Highly rated reviewer]
Splatterhouse is more like one of the old school slash'em up titles you may have played on the ps1 or earlier consoles.
Gameplay is very repetitive and soon gets old, leaving you feeling playing the game is more of a chore than a pleasure.
Not even worth a rental- Was this review helpful to you?

(34)DARK COMICAL BLOOD BATH !!!!
By 26464 (12 reviews) from Bradford , 17 Nov 2012This game is absolutely great, reminds me of (THE SUFFERING 1&2) for the original xbox....
It is a good stress release if you like games like Left for dead 1&2 or any other bloody violent but funny games then rent it.... you will enjoy.
If your expecting perfect in every aspect then get lost and stop playing games full stop (until we get holo decks like star trek your out of luck on perfection)
Highly recommend 8/10- Was this review helpful to you?

Dark, Bloody and Funny
By xGreenLantern92x (15 reviews) , 05 Jun 2012This was one of my first two rentals along with Watchmen: The End is Nigh, and I wasn't too disappointed with what I played, but then again I wasn't expecting to be blown away.
Splatterhouse plays as a standard platformer with some basic button bashing, enemy slaughtering action thrown in for good measure. The story is fairly formulaic, a everyday guy (Rick) losing his girlfriend (Jen) to Dr West, who hopes to sacrifice her to bring back his deceased wife. Rick then gets empowered by this skull that takes semi-control of him allowing him to fight Dr West's twisted creations to reach Jen in time.
SH isn't a bad game by any means, it certainly has a fun, tongue-in-cheek element to it, the skull itself having its own lines of dialogue and representing RIck's dark side. The game doesn't have much replay value though, with the hardest difficulty not proving that much of a step up from the easiest. It does have a survival arena mode, but there are only six different arenas and it is essentially the same thing just with different backgrounds around the arenas.
With regards to achievements, I maxed the game in just over a month of playing. Collectibles are fairly easy to find and completing the game on the hardest difficulty won't prove that hard for decent players, only a few sections giving people some trouble. Most of the achievements come from using each type of ability and racking up X amount of kills that way, such as kills with a weapon or kills in Berserker mode. S ranks in the survival arenas seem hard at first but after a few tries you can suss out the patterns and techniques to survive.
Overall the game is fun, and I think that's all it's really trying to be. The game isn't a groundbreaking title that sets new standards but it isn't trying to be, so it achieves what it sets out to do. If you're looking for a dark humored game that has a clever script where the funniest lines come from an ancient spirit infused skull and you can rip the arms off of evil clowns, rent this now!- Was this review helpful to you?

Could have been better but fun
By BishopX25 (5 reviews) , 27 Apr 2012A lot of people don't like this game and I admit... It's not for everyone but I love the humour and the overall experience of playing through it, and the experimental features... Could have been better though- Was this review helpful to you?
