Age shall not weary, nor the years condemn..

Continuing the trend for mercilessly pillaging their N64 catalogue for 3ds releases, nintendo quietly deposit starfox 64 3d onto the shelves. Much like the superb 3d ocarina of time released some months back, this is a reverential conversion - none of the underlying game has been touched, but the graphical makeover has been drastic.
Like a touched-up hollywood starlet, nothings escaped the surgeon's knife. Textures have been re-applied, the 3d models have been re-done. The new graphics are absolutely fantastic, even rivalling the superb ocarina of time 3d, and the 3d effect works well, although for some reason it isnt as pronounced as in Ocarina of Time 3d.
Somewhat more contentious is the decision to completely re-record all the dialogue and music. While the dialogue in the original n64 version was undeniably terrible, it had a kind of cheesy, gerry anderson 60s thunderbirds kind of charm. While the original actors have been tempted back for the rerecordings, several lines' tones and inflections are noticeably different. The new music also sounds worse than the original, by trying to emulate an orchestral sound synthetically (much like the terrible attempt made in Twilight Princess). The option of the original dialogue or musicisnt present, and this is the only area where the remake falls down.
So really then the issue here is the quality of the original game. Its an excellent rail shooter, and still has massive and undeniable appeal for high-score fanatics, but if youre looking for a solid and long lasting experience and you arent a high score nut you might be better off looking elsewhere.- Was this review helpful to you?

Short but sweet
By Sulifer (3 reviews) , 27 Mar 2012this is a great game that I used to play back on the N64, the game is entertaining however the 3D effects are not that great and I finished the game in just over an hour.
Worth a rent :)- Was this review helpful to you?

Short And Old
By a customer , 30 Dec 2011I was considering buying this game but I'm glad I didn't as I completed it in under 1 hour. It's almost identical to Lylat Wars on the N64 and it has not aged well. Linear, repetitive shooting which would be boring if it wasn't so short.- Was this review helpful to you?
