One of the worst games ever
By CASMAN from Berkshire, England , 27 Jul 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
Well I know the guy that hadn't played it gave it 5 stars, but I have played it and wouldn't give it any. I think it is truly awful. It reminds me of F.E.A.R. It tries to innovate, but actually just provides a pathetic attempt at an FPS. Firstly, the controls are poorly laid out, can't be changed much and are really unintuitive/uncomfortable (I hate Fire on R2 rather than the norm of R1). In the opening sequence you can't hear dialogue over noise. The in-game map is almost unreadable and provides no use. Enemies can be shot five times and then will get up again from behind you and shot you. An enemy will shoot you from a distance, but then ignore you when you stand in front of them.
The graphics are very poor and the flow of the game awful. Stupid and annoying cut screens play for 90% of their duration before offering a Skip screen. I had to start again when a piece of moveable environment blocked the path. If review space allowed I could go on about the faults.- Was this review helpful to you?

Why all the bad reviews?
By a customer , 08 Mar 2013Why all the bad reviews, considering this was one of the early games of this gen I think it's great, good original idea, good story and game world with some nice touches the darkness powers are cool, on 360 the game looks fine, with good use of dark/shadow/lighting effects, and its not just a linear path you follow or told step by step what to do or which way to go by an arrow which is a big problem these days, but the thing I love most has to be Mike Patton as the voice of the darkness he has done it soooo well maybe easily one of the best voice overs ever it really does bring the game together- Was this review helpful to you?

Don't! Just... don't.
By TFolder (17 reviews) , 14 Jan 2013Stay away! Very bad game, reviews say it all. The game's price in shops is around 3 GBP - that should say enough.- Was this review helpful to you?

Controls = Confusing, Graphics = Poor, Story = Boring
By Psycho-Paul (21 reviews) from Manchester , 17 Apr 2012Was bored of this after the second time I played it. The controls are hard to get used to, it only tells you how to do certain things once, so if you forget which particular buttons it told you to press (which I did) you're screwed.
Also for some reason I couldn't get the character you play to run, he just sorta limps around so hard to get to cover when being shot at.
Gameplay as far as gun fights go feels more like a third-person-shooter, it just doesn't feel right and is very hard to aim because the pistols he uses are dual wielded. You can press R3 to aim better, but still not great and the range you get is poor, so you need to get close to get the kill.
I found The Darkness controls hard to get used to and control, and it didn't seem to work to well for me.
Overall the game bored me silly and put together with all the other things I don't like about it, I can only rate the game a painful half star I'm afraid.- Was this review helpful to you?

A fine piece of art
By victorfernandes (13 reviews) , 17 Nov 2011One of my top 10 favourite games this generation, great story telling, good graphics, excellent voice acting, excellent settings, very different (original) from what you see with the usual shooter (calls od dutys), can't wait to play the darkness 2- Was this review helpful to you?
