Link's finest 3D adventure returns

For those not familiar with Ocarina of Time (OOT), it was the first Zelda game to appear on Nintendo's N64 console back in 1998 and is considered by many to be the high point of the series - at least in 3D.
OOT was one of the first 3D games to successfully blend open-world Action RPG gameplay with a structured main quest. The many side quests spread across the world all gave useful rewards, with none of them being *required* to complete the game, meaning they could be completed or left alone as players saw fit.
The pacing, gameplay and storyline all came together to form one of the most memorable gaming experiences of the 1990s, and one that's stood the test of time. This isn't the first port that OOT's seen, as it also appeared on the Gamecube, and all the optional extras added to that version of the game - the 'Master Quest' if you will - can also be found here. This is essentially a remix of the original game, adding new puzzles and challenges to the existing dungeons, giving OOT extra replay value once the main game's been completed.
OOT became a blueprint for how to make Action RPGs for a reason - it was bloody good then and it's just as good today. I, for one, can't want for the 3DS version to be released.- Was this review helpful to you?

A 3D game that looks good

Ocarina of time really did stand the test of time
By ultimatechi (3 reviews) , 08 Jan 2012Opinion: I have never played ocarina of time to completion since I was always put off by the blocky environments and always found the N64 controller uncomfortable. The issue also occured in the ports on Gamecube and Virtual Console especially with the c button issue. If only I knew what a mistake I was making by avoiding the game. After viewing trailers of the remake on the 3ds I decided to finally buy it and play it to completion.
Graphics:
The remake is brilliant to say the least and with the addition of the 3D the graphics on ocarina of time are possibly the best on the 3ds.
Storyline:
The storyline is outstanding and becomes difficult to put down once you get into it, you just keep wanting more even the ending will want you wanting more. It does however become slightly confusing when you are an adult due to a timeline issue but quickly picks up after you understand that everything that happens is pre-determined.
Gameplay:
The gameplay is perfect on the 3ds and I can't find any faults with it. Since the gameplay is the same as it was on the N64 I guess it was just the way the controls were layed out on the N64 controller and I just wasn't comfortable with such a controller. Touch screen works very well with the game controls and you'll be using it more often than you think.
Final View:
A game that should not be missed as it is always making you want more. It is an amazing remake and with great gameplay mechanics, a great storyline and awesome graphics, this is a must-buy game for any 3ds owner. 10 out of 10.- Was this review helpful to you?

Only five stars because I cant give it twelve

Theres a reason it set the template for every other action adventure game since, and also stands as a perfect example (along with mario 64 and metroid prime) of how to transfer a two-dimensional gaming experience into 3d.
The game remains eminently playable today, with fantastic puzzle design, beautiful environments (that now look so much more gorgeous than they did on the n64) and the 3d effect in this game is astounding. Hardcore players get access to the 'master quest' version of the game upon finishing the main game, which reorganises the dungeons and increases the difficulty. A genuine challenge for zelda veterans.
(Almost) singlehandedly justifies the purchase of a 3ds. Simply brilliant.- Was this review helpful to you?
