This was shocking, I think I was expecting it to be a flight sim or sorts. If your expecting a game similar to ACE combat or any of the HAWKs then avoid this.

The controls are basic nursery stuff, you can't fly upside down its literally yaw left yaw right, go up/down or do a pointless barrel roll and end up where you started.

If you hold brake it looks like your doing 20mph and can literally turn on a pinhead, I know these jets are awesome but thats some serious YAW action going on there.

It's jerky, like they made the game played it and thought it looked too tame so added some serious over the top constant camera shaking to it. The enemy planes look like they are skitzing out close up probably a result of the camera jerking.

The flying in Battlefield:3 has got better gameplay and maneuverability than this game and thats a 1st person shooter not a flight sim/flying game or whatever you would class this as

General gameplay will bore you after 5 minutes, its hit X press right, do this do that, all you do is hit the buttons that appear on screen and you shoot them down.

If your renting this for a young child they would probably enjoy this as its easy but if you have played any flight sims before this is not for you.

  • Feel The Need, The Need for ...

I felt the need for a good game, Top Gun Hard Lock under delivers on almost every attribute. Play is about mashing the buttons when instructed by on screen displays - yes it is possible to crash or over shoot but the environment is very stale, even if your wingman was Ice Man himself you'd still need to tick that electronic box to close the level. The graphics are exceptionally poor, blocky, poor shading they look like the cut scenes you often get in shooters, compressed to save on disk space. The dialogue? I can only assume Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer were busy, because the dialogue is poorly scripted and predictable – the gest is even unfunny and mistimed. The game under delivers to such an extent that it feels like an arcade game at the bowling arcade and even then I would have been disappointed. Feel the Need .. the need to get away from this game.

I'm a big fan of flying games and i wsn't expecting anything from this, but boy was i wrong! this is an excellent fun and reletaviley stress free combat game, good story, little repetetive now and again but hey what the heck! I think ace combat is by far the best series of games but this uses that idea quite well and as an eighties child it took me back to those Top Gun and Days of Thunder days. 'Ifeel the need....the need for speed!!. definately rent this!

if you like the film top gun then you might get some enjoyment out of this, otherwise avoid this like the flu. naff grafix, annoying controls, boring game play, repetitive and really frustrating, barrel roll, shoot, barrel roll, shoot, shoot, barrel roll... yawn.
