Zumba 1 and 2 Pros and Cons
By YorkshireLass74 (12 reviews) , 19 Dec 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
Having now tried out Zumba1 and Zumba2 I think they are both great!! Zumba 2 has made my Christmas list!
It is perfectly possible to play without the belt - indeed I've not tried it with one! - if you tuck the wii controller down your waistband on your RIGHT hip it works perfectly ok.
There are pros and cons to both these games. A comparison follows:
The Style and Music:
Zumba 1 - is more traditional with traditional Zumba music and latin influenced dance steps.
Zumba 2 - has a wider range of music and dance influences.
Overall I would say the sound quality is better on Zumba 2.
The instructor animation:
The zumba instructors have much more 'attitude' in Zumba 2 - not sure this is a good thing actually - but they are better animated. However, the special party effects - fireworks, soft focus, screen rotation etc can make it hard to follow the moves at times. Whilst Zumba 1 is more simple - it may be easier to follow at times.
Routine variation/choices:
Zumba 2 allows you to choose any class right from the start. You can also choose which venue you want and class length (short = 20mins, Med = 45 and long I guess is about an hour). Great to adapt your workout for the time available. Awards are given for completion of classes and for dancing in different venues. Good motivation to keep going! You can even set your own track list if you wish.
Zumba 1 is more progressive - You can only start with the beginner classes and the other classes and venues are unlocked as you progress. Great if you ARE a beginner - less so if you have more experience and want to jump in higher up the ladder. In Zumba Party mode if you complete a number of progressive classes you are rewarded with an hour's Zumbathon with Beto himself!! (Not got there yet)
Multiplayer Mode:
Is also a lot better in Zumba 2 - Colour coded so a lot easier to see who's who.
Advantages and Disadvantages:
A disadvantage of Zumba 2 and an advantage of Zumba 1 - is the fact that in Zumba 2 you can no longer set the routine to Easy, Medium or Hard giving a progressive introduction to a new routine - adding extra bits as you develop. Also some of the routines in Zumba 2 are quite complicated so you have to be satisfied with just keeping moving and not necessarily having it spot on the whole time.
A couple of advantages of Zumba 2 are the calorie counter and progress tracker - Much better than the workout calendar of Zumba 1 - I didn't really get on with this at all. Also the tutorials for the basic steps are much better. You control the progression physically with the buttons. Much better than the oversensitive motion tracker of Zumba 1! Zumba 2 tutorial seems to be missing Calypso steps though so maybe this influence is not so strong in Zumba 2.
All in all:
Either of these discs would provide you with a great workout. And... in answer to a number of friends who have asked this question - Yes you do still get all hot and sweaty with this game like you do in a live class.
There are pros and cons to each. Maybe Zumba 3 (?!?) will combine the best of both at some point in the future.
Not as good as a live class but great if you can't get to a class or to use to compliment the live classes when you just can't get enough!- Was this review helpful to you?

By Clarky16 (31 reviews) from Wigan , 17 Mar 2012Got this for the wife and she loved it. She has now bought it and is on it nearly everyday. She recommends it to anyone thinking of getting it. Decent tunes and dancing. She is steadily losing weight and toning up.- Was this review helpful to you?
