McG: 'The Rock's not my Nemo'

Director Mcg is baffled by reports Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has landed the lead role in 20 Leagues Under The Sea: Captain Nemo - because he's never spoken to the wrestler-turned-actor.

The filmmaker, real name Joseph McGinty Nichol, is working on a remake of the 1954 sci-fi movie, which Johnson was recently reported to have been cast in.

But McG has dismissed the claims insisting he is still courting Will Smith for the main role, which was originally played by James Mason.

The moviemaker tells SciFiWire.com, "I don't know where that (rumour) came from. I've never spoken to Dwayne Johnson... I like him. He's great. He's a wonderful human being and an excellent screen presence, but we have not spoken about 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Not a word."

And the director is hoping to win over his first choice, Smith, by treating the movie star to a special preview of his new film Terminator Salvation: "My intention is to show him Terminator and see if he responds to it. We're friendly. We'll see if it's in the cards."
