Universal moves again for Dreamworks

3 stars out of 5.0
NBC Universal has reportedly made another offer to purchase DreamWorks SKG, the film studio that was formed just over a decade ago by Stephen Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen.

Talk of such a deal had surfaced a few weeks ago with no end product, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal has now returned to the discussion table.

Universal may have been prompted to resurrect interest by the news that Viacom's Paramount Pictures could also be entering the bidding.

The studio has worked with Dreamworks in the past on projects such as War Of The Worlds, Collateral and Saving Private Ryan.

Recent Dreamworks films include Red Eye, Match Point and Just Like Heaven.

Any sale of Dreamworks SKG would not include its animation division, which has produced hits such as the Shrek films, Madagascar, Shark Tale and the newly released Wallace & Gromit: The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit.
