Transformers sequel is 2009's biggest box office earner

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is officially the biggest film of 2009 so far after it reached the £400 million mark on Tuesday (07Jul09).

The Michael Bay movie, starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, pulled in a huge amount of cinema goers and took over the year's (09) most successful film Angels & Demons in just two weeks after its release.

The film has garnered £199 million so far in the U.S. and Canada, while it has topped £200 million in revenue from the global box office.

The first movie in the franchise managed to accumulate more than £472 million during its time at the domestic box office in 2007.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen already holds the title of highest-earning Wednesday opening of all time, and the second highest grossing day ever behind The Dark Knight.
