Witherspoon smashes record pay deal

Hollywood golden girl Reese Witherspoon (Sweet Home Alabama, Vanity Fair) has agreed a deal that will see her become the highest paid actress of all time.

Witherspoon, 29, has gatecrashed the elite actress category following her starring role in much-acclaimed Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line.

And such is the strength of her current wave of popularity that the makers of forthcoming feature Our Family Trouble are set to offer her a whopping $29 million to take the lead.

The astronomical figure will smash the previous record fee for a female actress, that held by Julia Roberts, who was paid a paltry $24 million for 2003's epic flop Mona Lisa Smile.

Also the star of Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions, Witherspoon is in line to win the best actress gong at the Academy Awards ceremony this Sunday
