McGregor almost quit after watching Day-Lewis

Ewan Mcgregor set fire to his Equity union card after watching Daniel Day-Lewis in In The Name Of The Father - because he realised he'd never be as good an actor as the Irishman.

The Scot admits he'd most like to work with Day-Lewis, even though he almost gave up acting because of his peer.

He tells the Los Angeles Times, "Whenever I watch him, I think, 'What's the point? There's no point in carrying on. That's it.'

"I remember watching In the Name of the Father and coming out of the cinema and burning my Equity card and going, 'I'm finished'.

"There's no way I can ever be that good, and it's so depressing."
