Jen's new rom com makes a splash

Romantic comedy The Break-Up, starring Jennifer Aniston, has unexpectedly gatecrashed the top spot in the US film charts.

Former Friends star Aniston, 37, appears opposite her apparent boyfriend, Dodgeball's Vince Vaughn, 36, in the light-hearted flick which revolves around the tried and tested formula of a couple in trouble fighting to save their relationship.

And just as she did with Along Came Polly and Bruce Almighty before, Aniston not only saves the day in the film but has also helped it achieve huge box office success.

Universal Studio estimates suggest The Break-Up took $38.1 million (£20.2 million) at the North American box office over its opening weekend, $4 million more than X-Men: The Last Stand, which drops to second place following its record-breaking opening last weekend.

Meanwhile, animated film Over The Hedge, starring the voice of Bruce Willis, is currently third in the charts after taking $20.6 million.

The Da Vinci Code is fourth and Tom Cruise's third Mission Impossible film holds on to fifth place.
