Paltrow and Monaghan itching to star in Farrelly film

Hollywood's gross-out merchants extraordinaire, the Farrelly brothers, are looking for female leads to star in their remake of 1972's The Heartbreak Kid, which starred Cybill Shepherd and Charles Grodin.

The original film saw Grodin's character, Lenny Cantrow, realise he'd made a huge mistake in marrying Jeannie Berlin's character, Lila Kolodny, three days into his Miami honeymoon, when he falls in love with Kelly, played by Cybill Shepherd.

Having ditched poor Lila, Lenny than has the unenviable task of trying to get into the good books of her father played by Eddie Albert, who states in no uncertain terms that he'd rather be tortured by the Spanish Inquisition than have Lenny for a son-in-law.

Fast-forward 34 years and the Farrelly brothers, of Kingpin, There's Something About Mary, Shallow Hal and Dumb And Dumber fame, have replaced Elaine May in the directors chair- more of a squeeze I should imagine- Ben Stiller has taken over from Grodin in the lead role, oh, and the film is now called The Seven Day Itch.

Which leaves only a female vacuum, which Hollywood reports suggest will be filled by Gwyneth Paltrow and Michelle Monaghan (Mission Impossible 3, Constantine, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang).
