Vivien Leigh 'greatest-ever beauty'

Vivien Leigh has been named as the greatest British beauty of all time in a new poll.

The Oscar-winning Gone With the Wind actress, who died in 1967, beat other Hollywood A-listers including Elizabeth Taylor and Julie Christie to the top spot.

Leigh is best known for her skirt-swishing role in the American Civil War film, but she also won an Oscar for her other 'southern belle' role as Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire opposite screen legend Marlon Brando.

Present day style icons Kate Moss and Sienna Miller (Alfie, Layer Cake, High Speed) also failed to beat Leigh, as they came seventh and eighth in the poll of 1,000 women.

Other than Kate Moss, the only other non-actress named in the top ten was Princess Diana, who came fourth.

Bond girl Honor Blackman, who starred as Pussy Galore in Goldfinger, came sixth, while Welsh-actress turned Hollywood A-lister Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago, Traffic, High Fidelity) was third.

Dr Quinn Medicine Woman star Jane Seymour came tenth in the poll.
