George options Grisham

George Clooney's production company has bought the rights to one of John Grisham's novels, entitled An Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town.

Although there is no word yet on whether Clooney will direct, produce or act in the thriller, it is set to be the first adaptation of John Grisham's non-fiction work.

Known for his legal thrillers, often based in the southern states of America, many of Grisham's novels have been adapted for the big screen.

These include The Firm, which starred Tom Cruise as a young lawyer plucked from obscurity to join a powerful but sinister company.

Other titles include The Pelican Brief, the story of a law student who becomes embroiled in a corrupt and dangerous murder investigation, while The Rainmaker features Matt Damon as a prosecutor who takes on a fraudulent insurance company.

In addition, A Time to Kill starred Sandra Bullock, Samuel L Jackson and Matthew McConaughey in a story of racial uprising in Mississippi after a father's trial for killing his daughter's attackers.
