Summer movies 'full of sequels'

4 stars out of 5.0
The number of sequels comprising this summer's line-up of Hollywood blockbusters has been noted by a journalist, who suggests that it might not be a good thing.

Films such as Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End, Spider-Man 3, Hostel II and Ocean's Thirteen are scheduled for release in the coming months, following widely-seen predecessors in recent years.

But although Philip French, writing for the Observer, says the number of sequels "is the most striking thing" about this summer's movies, he adds that it "reflects poorly on the industry".

"[There are] at least ten by my estimation," Mr French says, citing more films such as Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, which will be the fifth in the series.

Meanwhile, fans of the widely-popular Shrek movies can look forward the Shrek The Third, while horror lovers can soon see 28 Weeks Later - the sequel to 28 Days Later - which opens in the UK on May 11th.
