Steve Carell in new US release

This weekend sees comedy sequel Evan Almighty hit cinema screens in the US, giving UK audiences time to catch up on star Steve Carell's previous films.

Evan Almighty is the follow-up to Bruce Almighty, in which Jim Carrey played a man given God's powers to show whether he can do a better job than the man himself. It starred Carell as rival newsreader Evan Baxter and also featured Jennifer Aniston.

Meanwhile, he also took the lead role in The 40 year Old Virgin - a hilarious comedy about a man whose friends try to help him get a girlfriend - before which he played Brick Tamland in Will Ferrell's 1970s-themed Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

While Carell may have mostly appeared in comedy fare, he changed direction with the independent drama Little Miss Sunshine, a funny and moving story about a dysfunctional family's road trip.

Fans eager to see Evan Almighty can do so when it opens in the UK on August 3rd.
