Ratatouille beats Die Hard to top spot

4 stars out of 5.0
An animated rat has beaten Bruce Willis to number one in the US box office this week, ahead of the latter's release in the UK on Friday.

Ratatouille, which comes from the team behind The Incredibles, took the number one spot and earned $47.2 million (£23.47 million) in its first week, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

This meant Live Free or Die Hard - to be titled Die Hard 4.0 when it reaches British cinema screens - occupied second place in the chart, ahead of Steve Carell comedy Evan Almighty.

Another three sequels stayed in the top ten, including Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Ocean's Thirteen, while a new documentary by Michael Moore about the US healthcare system, Sicko, moved to number nine.

Die Hard 4.0 opens in UK cinemas this Wednesday and Ratatouille is slated for an October release.
