Stardust premieres in London

The red carpet in London's Leicester Square glittered last night as a host of celebrities arrived for the UK premiere of fairytale adaptation Stardust.

Telling the story of a mysterious kingdom where a fallen star - played by Claire Danes - must escape being hunted, it features a well-known cast including Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ricky Gervais and Sienna Miller.

And when asked about his role in the movie, Gervais told Empire Online that it was too good to resist.

"Well how could you turn it down," he said. "It was Rob and Michelle, I could ad lib and wear a silly hat and it wasn't very far from my house."

Also present at the event was writer Neil Gaiman, as well as director Matthew Vaughn who told the magazine he had always wanted to work with Pfeiffer after seeing her in Grease 2.

Stardust opens in the UK on October 19th.
