Fred Claus tops UK box office

3 stars out of 5.0
Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti in Fred Claus have hit the top of the UK box office this week, according to new AC Nielsen data.

Raking in over £1.93 million, the film debuted at number one ahead of another new entry, Hitman.

Hitman stars Timothy Olyphant and is the adaptation of a computer game focusing on an assassin who becomes embroiled in a corrupt political web. The film has made £1.24 million since its release last Friday.

Meanwhile, American Gangster, Beowulf, Stardust and Rataouille all stayed inside the top ten, as did Good Luck Chuck and The Darjeeling Limited.

The chart was rounded off by two more new entries - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Aaja Nachle - although The Golden Compass is likely to chart next week as families flock to the cinema in the run-up to Christmas.
