Jumper leaps to US top spot

Teleportation thriller Jumper, starring Samuel L Jackson and Star Wars' Hayden Christensen, has leapt to the top of the US box office chart in its opening weekend.

According to figures from Nielsen, the film, which also stars The OC's Rachael Bilson and Jamie Bell of King Kong, was one of four films making their debut in the chart.

It was followed by drama Step Up 2: The Streets and fantasy The Spiderwick Chronicles, which is released in the UK on March 21st.

Romantic adventure comedy Fool's Gold, which reunites How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days pair Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, came in at number four, while another debut, rom-com Definitely, Maybe entered at five.

Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins, with Bad Boys's Martin Lawrence and James Earl Jones, was number six.

Juno continued its crossover success at number Seven by becoming the top-grossing movie on the chart, taking $124,089,789 (£63,612,019) in 11 weeks.

Meanwhile, screen legends Jack Nicholson (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Chinatown, Batman) and Morgan Freeman (The Shawshank Redemption, Seven, Million Dollar Baby) were at number eight with The Bucket List.

This week's top ten was rounded out by Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour and chick-flick 27 Dresses.
