Vantage Point takes pole position at box office

3 stars out of 5.0
Thriller Vantage Point, starring Dennis Quaid and 2007 Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, has knocked action flick Jumper off the top spot at the US box office, according to official figures.

The film, which tells the story of an attempt to assassinate the US president from the different perspectives of five characters, took over $22.87 million (£11.56 million) on its opening weekend to debut at number one.

Jumper's box office fell off 54 per cent in its second week to leave it at three, behind fantasy The Spiderwick Chronicles, which features Weeds star Mary-Louise Parker and the voice of legendary Hollywood hell-raiser Nick Nolte.

Dance sequel Step Up 2 the Streets, adventure Fool's Gold and romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe all fell one place from last week.

Martin Lawrence's Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins came in at seven, while crossover success and newly-crowned Original Screenplay Oscar winner Juno continued its success at eight.

Jack Black and Mos Def movie remake comedy Be Kind, Rewind debuted at nine, while epic drama There Will Be Blood, featuring an Oscar-winning performance from Daniel Day-Lewis, is at ten.

Vantage Point opens in the UK on March 7th.
