Damon flick a Bourne winner at Empire awards

Spy thriller The Bourne Ultimatum, which stars Matt Damon, Julia Styles and Albert Finney, scooped the top prize at last night's Sony Ericsson Empire Awards 2008, the movie magazine has confirmed.

Top awards, which are voted for by the magazine's readers, also went to Atonement's Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, who took home the gongs for Best Actress and Best Actor.

David Yates won Best Director for Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix, while Sam Riley collected the Best Newcomer award for his portrayal of Joy Division's Ian Curtis in Control.

Simon Pegg's shoot 'em up spoof Hot Fuzz was named Best Comedy, while American Gangster won Best Thriller.

Zombie sequel 28 Weeks Later picked up Best Horror and Stardust, with Claire Danes, Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfieffer, dazzled its way to the Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy prize.

Ewan McGregor, whose credits include Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge! and the Star Wars prequel trilogy, was named the Empire Icon.
