Ford 'not too old to play Indy'

The 19-year gap between the third and fourth instalments of the Indiana Jones movies should not be an issue as it is part of the film's fabric, according to Empire journalist Ian Nathan.

Some fans feel that Harrison Ford may be a little on the creaky side for the role, given that he has not played the adventurous archaeologist since 1989's Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade.

However, the premiere of Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, the fourth film in the franchise, received a positive response at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday night, with former Empire editor Nathan claiming the atmosphere of the first three films was not lost.

"Of course, he's old compared to the first three films," he said, "but from what I understand, that is part of the fabric of the film, it's about Indiana Jones being old."

"It certainly provides an opportunity for a lot more humour and maybe a bit more of a human touch," he added.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull opens in the UK on Thursday May 22nd.
