Coens top US box office

The Coen brothers' have bagged their first number one on the US box office chart, with their new film Burn after Reading.

Starring Brad Pitt, George Clooney and John Malkovich, the comedy-drama pulled in some $19.4 million (£10.7 million) during its first weekend on release.

It represents the biggest-ever box office haul for the Coen bothers, following on from the huge critical success of their previous movie No Country For Old Men – which claimed four Academy Awards.

Second position was claimed by The Family The Preys Together, while Righteous Kill – which sees legendary actors Robert De Niro and Al Pacino reunite for the first time in 13 years – came in at third.

Fourth place was occupied by The Women, while The House Bunny continued to perform well, completing the top five.

Christopher Nolan's second Batman feature The Dark Knight finally dropped out of the top five after a hugely successful run, slipping to number seven.
