De Niro and Scorsese to reunite for mob film

4 stars out of 5.0
Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese are to be reunited for a forthcoming mobster drama.

I Heard You Paint Houses will focus on the story of Frank "the Irishman" Sheeran – the assassin who is thought to have shot union leader Jimmy Hoffa.

Scorsese will helm the project, which is being adapted from Charles Brandt's book, while De Niro will take the lead role.

Sheeran is thought to have killed at least 25 people, including the murder and dismemberment of Hoffa, under orders from mob chief Russell Bufalino.

The De Niro/Scorsese partnership has already produced some bona fide cinematic classics, such as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Casino.

"We came from the same New York neighbourhood but hung out on different streets," Scorsese explained in 2004.

"We can finish each other's sentences and understand things that are not said.

"It's like a professional marriage, and the offspring are the movies."
