Hathaway and Carter 'join Alice'

Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter have joined the cast of Tim Burton's Disney version of Alice In Wonderland, according to the US media.

Burton's adaptation of Lewis Carroll's classic story, which is to be presented in 3D using a mixture of live action and animation, is scheduled for release in March 2010.

The eccentric director has already cast relatively unknown Australian actress Mia Wasikowska as Alice, while Johnny Depp was recently confirmed for the role of the Mad Hatter.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Brokeback Mountain star Hathaway will take the role of the White Queen, while Bonham Carter will play the Red Queen.

Bonham Carter – Burton's fiancée - has appeared in several of Burton's films including Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, which both featured Depp in a lead role.

Wasikowska will soon be seen alongside Daniel Craig in war drama Defiance, which will hit cinema screens in January.
