Rescheduling 'shuffles Oscar faves'

Several high-profile actors tipped as favourites for Oscar nominations may have had their chances scuppered due to a major rescheduling of release dates.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, three upcoming movies - The Road, The Soloist and Defiance - have had their release dates changed, which could have a detrimental effect on their eligibility for an Academy Award.

As a result, Daniel Craig, Robert Downey Jr. Jamie Foxx and Viggo Mortensen may find they miss out on a chance of an award for best actor or best supporting actor.

"The whole race turned upside down in a matter of days," one Oscar consultant said.

"You have four potential best-actor candidates who are not just in limbo - they may be gone."

However, it is thought that the rescheduling be beneficial for other autumn candidates such as Brad Pitt for The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler, Josh Brolin for W and Sean Penn for Milk.
