The Aviator flies onto DVD

Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning film The Aviator comes out on DVD at the start of next week, offering a snapshot into the renegade world of filmmaker Howard Hughes.

After being pipped to the post for the best director award by Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby at this year's Oscars, Scorsese's 163-minute big screen classic went on to win a host of other awards at both the Oscars, the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes.

Lord of the Rings star Cate Blanchett who plays Katharine Hepburn snapped up an Academy Award for her supporting role while Leonardo Di Caprio, previously of Catch Me If You Can and Gangs of New York, took on the role of Hughes himself.

A host of British actors and actresses feature in the US-made Aviator including Van Helsing and Pearl Harbour star, Kate Beckinsale who plays Ava Gardner and Closer's Jude Law appears as Errol Flynn.

Pop sensation Gwen Stefani also makes her first appearance on the big screen as Jean Harlow.
