Cage to star in 9/11 film

Nicolas Cage is to star in a new film about the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, which Paramount Pictures hopes to release in 2006.

Cage, who has won an Oscar for his role in Leaving Las Vegas, and starred in Adaptation and Matchstick Men, will play the role of Sgt John McLoughlin who was trapped in one of the twin towers.

McLoughlin, and officer William J Jimeno, are said to be the last two people who were rescued from the rubble after the attacks.

The film, which as yet has not been given a title, will be directed by Oliver Stone, who has directed major movies such as JFK, Natural Born Killers, Nixon and Alexander.

Stone, who has also won best director Oscars for Platoon and Born On The Fourth Of July, commented: "It's an exploration of heroism in our country - but is international at the same time in its humanity."
