Winstone hits out at government

British actor Ray Winstone has hit out at the government for damaging the prospects of the UK film industry.

The actor claims that the industry has suffered due to a decision last year to close tax loopholes on British-made films.

Winstone said: "Our TV is the best in the world but thanks to the government we have to make films in other countries.

"It seems that when a man who wants to make lots of money finds a tax loophole to make films, the government doesn't like that."

The actor has starred in many British films, including Last Orders, Sexy Beast and Scum.

He is currently filming an adaptation of Sweeney Todd, but was unable to film in London as it would be too expensive, relocating instead to Romania.

Winstone is also filming Breaking And Entering, to be directed by Anthony Minghella, the man behind The English Patient, The Talented Mr Ripley and Cold Mountain.

Winstone will co-star with Jude Law and Juliette Binoche.
