Speculation grows over new Wonder Woman

The original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, has declared that stars such as Sandra Bullock and Catherine Zeta-Jones are too old to play the role of the super heroine.

Carter, who appeared as Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV series, thinks an unknown actress in her 20s should play the role for the film, due to start shooting next year.

Yet this has not stopped Hollywood speculation from mounting with a host of hot talent being touted as potential favourites.

Mischa Barton, star of TV hit series The OC, has been associated with the role, as has Tom Cruise's fiancee and Batman Begins actress Katie Holmes.

Jessica Biel, who has appeared in The Rules of Attraction, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Cellular, is also linked with the project.

Only last week, Charlie's Angels actress Cameron Diaz was reported to have turned down the opportunity to play Wonder Woman, preferring to focus on more serious roles.

Carter is currently promoting her new film Sky High, starring Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston.
