Pride & Prejudice opens

Pride & Prejudice opens at UK cinemas today, with Keira Knightley excelling in the lead role of the 18th century drama.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean actress is joined by Matthew Macfadyen, who has appeared in In My Father's Den and Maybe Baby.

Other big Hollywood names who figure include Donald Sutherland, who featured recently in Cold Mountain and The Italian Job, and Die Another Day actress Rosamund Pike.

Based on the classic Jane Austen novel, the film centres on the five Bennet sisters - Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia.

Desperate to find themselves husbands, their lives are turned upside down by the arrival of a rich and eligible bachelor (Simon Woods) to the neighbourhood.

He falls for Jane (Pike) but it is his friend Darcy's (Macfadyen) relations with Elizabeth (Knightley) that causes the greatest intrigue.
